I have been renting a unit here for over 20 years, long before Prime Storage took over ownership. I was very pleased with the service prior to their management. Since they have taken over management the cost of my unit has jumped 42%- well over the consumer index. They have closed the office at my location, so for all issues requiring "human" involvement, I must travel 20 miles round trip... which would not be necessary if they would RETURN MESSAGES! In the last year, I made 6 phone calls to the number listed for local help. Each of the calls was rerouted to the "national" office, and I was unable to speak to a human during any of those 6 calls. I left complete, detailed messages regarding my issue(s)... AND NOT ONCE WAS MY CALL RETURNED (AT ALL, LEAST OF ALL IN A TIMELY MANNER). I was forced to call Prime Storage and leave repeated messages. And in two circumstances had to drive the 20 miles (and wait for the office person to get off the phone!) to get recognition of my problem (but no help!). The word SERVICE does not seem to be a part of the Prime Storage corporate ideology. I have other issues and complaints, delays in repair to my rental unit, inappropriate advice given by a customer seevice representative, ignoring requests for immediate help with a malfunctioning unit, but I will not go into details with these issues in this review.

Green Island Industries is a 20 year tenant. The GoPrime Group is akin to dealing with the Taliban. Experience rude managers (i.e. Lorraine); arrogant (i.e. Sarah) too busy to take a phone call, doesn’t respond to email; auto phone system is difficult to pay (i.e. every month credit card payment rejected, then mysteriously goes through? Not a good experience and doesn’t improve!

When we first got the storage unit, we paid under $100. Later it got to $119. Then when Prime Storage took over our price went to $150. Not happy about that and will be empty our storage room soon. Otherwise we have no issues with the facility.

Thousands of tiny spiders, spiders nests and webs were all over the outside of my storage unit and the door of my next door neighbor. When I asked management to have it resolved they told me it was my responsibility to hire my own exterminator. 50% price increase in rental rate in only less than 2 years.

I have been using green island storage for over 10 years. I rented a unit over 10 years ago and then rented another one about maybe 5 or 6 years ago which I am still using now. The staff is wonderful my only concern is the hike in pricing. I started out paying 50$ for this unit I have now and now in March 2021 I’m paying over 100$ for this same unit As long as I’ve been with this company I feel like older customers before the company switch should have been able to keep the price they were paying. Other than pricing everything is wonderful. Very nice people.

I have had my storage unit for over 5 years the only problem I have with it is the pricing. The price has gone up and I started with paying 50$ for my unit and now today in 2021 my rent is over 100$ For being a loyal long time customer In my opinion the price shouldn’t be that high.

Management is no help at all. When the outside of my storage unit became infested with tiny spiders management told me to hire my own exterminator. The webs, nests and spiders were all over my door and my next door neighbor's doors and locks. I had to keep a broom in the car because couldn't get to the lock without having to wipe away the spider mess first. When I opened the door spiders would be falling all over me. The spiders got inside the unit and got all over my possessions. According to the manager, their policy is tenant has to hire exterminator even though spiders came from outside. Management doesn't provide any sort of extermination even when its their own. Price was fair back about 18mos - 2 years ago. Within 18 months or so - I have had 50% price increase from $135 to $202.

Self Storage Frequently Asked Questions

What size storage unit do I need?

5' x 5' Storage Unit
It is approximately 25 square feet of space. This size typically holds the contents of one room or a large home closet. It is an excellent size to store seasonal items, garden tools, clothes, office supplies, suitcases, and miscellaneous boxes.

It is approximately 50 square feet of space. This size typically holds the contents of one room or an office. You can store small amounts of furniture, chairs, a mattress, kitchen appliances, and boxes.

5' x 15' Storage Unit

It is approximately 75 square feet of space. This type of unit is suitable for the contents of a one-bedroom apartment, including major appliances.

10' x 25' Storage Unit

It holds the contents of a large home, roughly 4 or 5 bedrooms, including large furniture, garage items, and major appliances.

What is the height of the storage units?

Storage units are approximately 8 feet high.

Do I need to rent a climate controlled unit?

If you have delicate items such as musical instruments, computers, pictures, or antique wood furniture, it is recommended to select a climate-controlled unit. Climate-controlled storage units protect against rust, corrosion, mold, cracking, and warping.

What’s the difference between an indoor and an outdoor unit?
An outdoor storage unit has direct access and is usually drive-up accessible. An indoor unit is located within a building.

What items can't be put in a storage unit?

Most storage facilities will not let you store firearms, perishable items, liquids, illegal drugs, flammable and hazardous materials, live animals, or plants.

Are my items insured while being in a storage unit?

You are responsible for the items you store. The storage facility's insurance protects the location that houses the storage units, not the contents of individual units. If your homeowner's insurance doesn't cover your items, the facility manager can usually help you sign up with an insurance provider.

Can I use my renters insurance for a storage unit?

Anything your renter's insurance policy covers under usual conditions will be covered in your storage unit. Usually, renter's insurance will cover items in a unit up to 10% of your policy limits, but it does not include natural disasters. However, there may be exceptions to this, so check with your insurance company to see if you're covered.

What do I need to bring with me when to rent a unit?

You will need a government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, or passport) to complete your storage unit rental agreement.

Can I access my unit anytime I want?

Most storage locations are open 365 days a year, but access hours may vary. During access hours, usually between 6 am and 10 pm seven days a week, you can access your unit using your individual gate code. During office hours, company employees are available to answer questions and provide on-site support.

How long can I rent a unit?

Most rental contracts are month-to-month agreements billed in one-month increments. No long-term lease is required unless the customer requests it.
