Laugh While You Pack: A Comical Guide on Items to Leave Behind

what not to pack for move infographic

Think you're a packing pro? Think again! Our uproarious infographic is about to school you on the items that are a big no-no when moving. From flammable fiascos to perishable pitfalls, we've got the lowdown, served with a generous side of humor. Don't just move—move wisely and get a good laugh while you're at it!

Nothing "explodey":

This is doubly, nay, triply true if you are flying to your new home. In case you've been asleep the past decade, security officials and airlines (as well as Federal agents...) tend to frown on items like gasoline, other flammable fluids, and while we're on the subject, bombs, being smuggled aboard a plane. Even if you're moving by truck, roads can be bumpy, and you may be traveling over a long distance during which items can get very hot or jostled around. And then it won't be happy, and, unless you love third degree burns, neither will you!

Clothes that don't fit:

This tip can really work to your advantage when moving. Before you pack everything, try on some old clothing items to see how they still fit. If they're too tight (or, congratulations too loose!) consider giving them to a local thrift store, homeless shelter, or to your friends. Save space and time: only bring clothing you will actually wear in the future...and by "the future", no, we don't mean go out and buy unisex silver spandex suits.

Knick knacks you have no use or value for:

All the little collectibles, doodads, and mini decorative pieces add up to space and weight when you move. Consider ditching the ones you no longer care about, and that will just take up space in your moving truck and in your new home. Similar to the clothes, this is a time to get a fresh start! Leave your old crap behind! Again, give it away, or if it's in bad shape, just toss it. (Pro-tip: some kids you know may get a kick out of some knick knacks you consider to be crap! Maybe not, but, maybe!)

Furniture that won't fit in your new place:

Just as your clothes must fit your body in order to earn passage on the ark to your new home, so much your furniture fit the dimensions of that new home itself. Now may be a good time to get rid of that "cool" old couch you found your freshman year of college. Just make sure you squeeze out all the change and Cheeto dust you can, first! Old furniture is a gold mine, but only worth keeping if it fits.
